BEMAC & Brisbane International Jazz Festival presents Kavita Shah
As part of the 2017 Brisbane International Jazz Festival, BEMAC and BIJF have partnered to co-present an evening of exceptional cultural and musical diversity at Queensland Multicultural Centre on Saturday, June 3.
An international legend praised for her amazing dexterity for musical languages and a local ensemble that unites cultures in an explosive mixture of sounds where tradition, improvisation, musical arrangement and world-class performers weave a thrilling fusion of string quartet, Indian and western percussion make up this double bill with is undoubtably one of the highlights on the festival calendar. is one of the highlights on the festival’s calendar.
Performing live is vocalist and composer Kavita Shah, a native New Yorker of Indian descent, fluent in Spanish, Portuguese and French. Kavita incorporates in-depth knowledge of diverse cultural traditions into her jazz-based repertoire, placing eclectic songs, instruments, and artists in dialogue with one another.
Raised in Manhattan, she studied classical piano from age 5 and performed regularly at Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center from age 10 as a member of the Young People’s Chorus of NYC.
Tickets are $33 full price, $26 concession and $20 for students under the age of 25.
