BEMAC presents WORLD MUSIC CAFE: For Tibet With Love
On Saturday, 23 September BEMAC will present a special World Music Cafe, with performances by Tenzin Choegyal, Taro Terahara and Shen Flindell, dedicated to Tenzin’s homeland Tibet.
An internationally renowned musician and activist for Tibet, Tenzin feels a particular connection to the music of the wandering people of his homeland. He recalls his father’s mastery of the lingbu (transverse bamboo flute) and his mother’s beautiful singing voice and attributes much of his passion to those early influences. His music has been described as beautifully evocative, healing, mesmerising, spine-tingling, and transcendent.
Over the last two decades, Tenzin has collaborated with numerous Australian and international musicians for For Tibet With Love concerts. From New York to Tokyo, these intimate concerts have taken a special place in the complex tapestry of global sounds and allowed Tenzin room to experiment with rhythm, structure and challenge traditional Tibetan musical norms.
BEMAC will proudly present a collaboration between Taro Terahara, one of the leading musicians in the thriving and highly competitive Indian classical music scene in Japan, Shen Flindell, one of Australia’s leading tabla players, and Tenzin Choegyal, in a For Tibet With Love concert.
There will be Tibetan momos by Lama Beans for sale at the concert. Doors to the venue will open at 6.30pm for a 7pm start. There is ample free parking available at the venue and along the streets surrounding it.
Tickets: Full Price $25 Concession $20
